New Zealand’s Spring comes in September, October, and November, and is a gorgeous time to visit! The countryside is lush and green, the fruit trees are in bloom, and adorable baby lambs bounce around the pastures. In Christchurch, bluebells and daffodils spring up, and Dunedin is coloured with vibrant rhododendrons.

As temperatures slowly start to increase, so does the amount of daylight hours. September starts out with approximately 11 hours of daylight. This increases to 14 hours in October and then to 15 hours toward the end of November.

Hiking

If you want to escape the busiest season on the trails, then the spring and fall months are great for hiking. It’s a little cooler, a little quieter, and you’re in for a treat because you will have most of the hiking trails to yourself. Choose from countless hiking trails around the eco-diverse nation and immerse yourself in its incredibly pristine wilderness.

Snowy peaks and Thermal pools

Due to New Zealand’s amazingly varied landscape, it’s possible to travel into the mountains for a few days of skiing, all year through. Enjoy warmer weather and pristine slopes when you visit in spring, as well as fantastic views from the mountain tops. Head to Mt. Hutt for skiing well into October, or choose one of the other numerous skiing areas dotted across the country.

There are also many thermal pools to enjoy, and fantastic health spas for a relaxing break from everyday life. A visit to Rotorua is a must for its geothermal wonders and rich Maori culture. Indulge your skin at the world’s biggest mud volcano at Hell’s Gate, or soak yourself in a sulfur spa before washing off in a spring-fed waterfall.

New Zealand has a rich outdoor culture, offering fishing, kayaking, boating, sailing, hiking, mountain climbing, walking, river rafting, and many more outdoor activities set in beautiful natural locations.
